1968 Mustang Coupe £24995

At the beginning of the 1968 production year the 289 4-barrel and the 289 High Performance were dropped from the engine line up and replaced with a brand new 302 4-barrel known as the “J code” which is identified by a “J” in the VIN number. The vast majority of of 1968 coupes were “C code” cars making the J code quite a rare find. The J code benefitted from a 4 barrel carburettor and achieved 230bhp with a noticeable difference in power over the standard C code. The J code was a one year option only.

This 302 V8 J Code Mustang Coupe was built at the San Jose plant on the 19th September 1968 and delivered new to Pheonix, Arizona. The car was always in Arizona being owned by the same family for many years and then purchased by a neighbour. Arizona's climate is arid and semi-arid, with average annual rainfall ranging from just 3 inches per year meaning cars like these are well preserved.

Originally ordered in Highland Green with Light Gold Nugget Vinyl interior. The car was repainted some years ago in Wimbledon White which shows some signs of wear in places but shows up well. The interior is believed to be original and also has the rare and optional centre console which is padded, features additional lighting and is different to the 1967 version. The car has the remote wing mirror option (with matching mirror on the passenger side) and the courtesy light group option which adds under dash lights, a luggage compartment light along with a glovebox light and lock. The car has a nice 3 spoke woodgrain steering wheel with a Cobra horn button.

This is a factory optioned “SelectAire” air conditioned car, which featured a different heater control system over the standard car with additional vents under the dashboard and in the dashboard panel. This is a great feature to have and is a welcome bonus during our increasingly warmer British summers. To compliment the air conditioning, this Mustang also comes with the tinted glass option. You will notice the glass has a luxurious green tint in comparison to the standard clear glass on standard cars.

This J code also sports the optional styled steel wheels from the GT model but with different hub caps. A popular feature of the 1968 model year is the louvered hood which has functional vents and integrated turn signals.

This Mustang was specified with the C-4 automatic gearbox, power steering and a 3.00:1 rear axle. Matching door tag to the vin number on the windshield.

In summary, a very nice original and rare Mustang coupe with some nice extra features.
